Dear Alumni, dear friends,
As Lebanon endures times of violence and atrocities, we place our trust in Divine Providence and in our mutual solidarity with our partners, professors, parents of students, students, alumni, and staff members.
First of all, I wish to express my profound gratitude to you, as you have always been there to support your University in times of war as well as in times of peace. Your many gestures of support have not gone unnoticed. We have always relied on your solidarity, which brings us warmth and comfort.
Despite the gravity of the situation, USJ remains standing, proud of its 150-year legacy, and intends to stay so. It endures thanks to your support, as well as the exceptional commitment of our instructors and administrative staff, whose dedication deserves our utmost recognition.
Confronted with this catastrophe, USJ has taken decisive action: The University’s NGO, Al Mazeed, along with the Campus Ministry and Opération 7e jour, are already on the ground supporting displaced families. For example, 350 hot meals are provided daily to 350 people in need.
Our concern now rests with the 2,000 students displaced by the conflict, who, along with their families, are struggling to continue their studies. These students join the 5,500 already benefiting from the solidarity scholarship fund, which reached over $23 million in 2023/24.
Dear Alumni, Dear friends,
Your financial support is crucial in these times of uncertainty. Thank you once again for standing by our side. We sincerely hope that Lebanon will soon regain peace and the strength to rebuild on a solid and healthy foundation.
Every gesture counts. Together, let’s bring hope to those who need it most.
We extend our deepest gratitude for your generosity and solidarity!
Salim Daccache, SJ,
Rector
More than 2,000 displaced students are encountering immense challenges in continuing their academic journeys. Your help is essential in allowing them to pursue their education. A donation of $100 represents 1% of annual tuition fees, yet its impact can be far greater: it has the power to change a student’s life and future. Your support, no matter the amount, is a beacon of hope for our struggling youth.
Help them continue their studies, preserve their dreams, and build a future despite the hardships they face.
Your urgent support is needed for the families of South Lebanon. Opération 7e jour, the Campus Ministry, and Al Mazeed, with the invaluable help of our student volunteers, are actively engaged in providing essential assistance to many displaced families. Together, they are sheltering nearly 350 individuals within the Jesuit communities of Beirut and Bikfaya and in public schools.
With winter approaching, living conditions will become extremely challenging. It is vital to ensure access to basic needs such as food, hot meals, clothing, blankets, and hygiene products. A donation of $50 can make a significant difference. This amount will support a family for one month, offering them food, hope, and dignity.
Hôtel-Dieu de France and our hospital network are overwhelmed, providing essential care to those without private insurance.
Your support, through financial donations or medical supplies, is crucial to continue saving lives.
