On the initiative of Prof. Roland Tomb, researcher in Semitic languages, a Chair of Phoenician Studies was created within Saint Joseph University of Beirut in June 2023 to promote, through education and research, knowledge of Phoenician civilization, language and history. It also aims to forge links between Lebanese specialists themselves as well as with the international scientific community in order to highlight the research carried out in all areas of Phoenician studies.

Prof. Françoise Briquel-Chatonnet will hold the Chair. She will be assisted by an Executive Director, Dr. Maroun Khreich, and by an International Scientific Committee.
