Together, Let’s Keep Hope Alive: USJ Gathers the School Directors of Lebanon

In a Lebanon marked by uncertainty but held together by a dreaming youth, Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), through the Student Information and Orientation Office (SIO), welcomed on June 3, 2026, at the Humanities Campus, the school principals of Lebanon in an evening themed: “Together, let’s Keep Hope Alive”.

This evening was more than just an institutional gathering, it was a moment of appreciation, of dialogue and emotion, gathering together the people who, every day, chose to believe in education as a force of transformation and future.

During her welcome speech, Dr. Jana Aouad, Director of the SIO, greeted the guests, saluting their unwavering commitment regardless of all difficulties, who keep on guiding the youth with determination and confidence.

Prof. François Boëdec, S.J., Rector of USJ, has then expressed the joy of meeting, for the first time as Rector, the representatives of the schools of all Lebanese regions. Referring to the university’s many recent achievements, including the unconditional institutional reaccreditation from the European agency ACQUIN, and the university’s progression in international rankings, and the development of new programs and financial aid granted to thousands of students, the Rector emphasized that excellence means nothing if it does not remain accessible and profoundly human.

The evening was also marked by inspiring interventions of USJ alumni: His Excellency Abbas El Halabi, Reverend Sister Maya Beaino and Mrs. Rima Faddoul, as well as testimonials from students and graduates of the University.

The evening came to an end with the Lebanese artist Abeer Nehme, who then surprised the audience by joining the USJ Choir to perform one of her songs, creating a warm and memorable atmosphere.

Magnificent musical performances by the USJ Choir brought magic to this moment of celebration.

The guests were then invited to resume the discussions over a reception cocktail held in the campus gardens and featured musical performances by USJ students.

Students from Campus-J were also present at the reception to engage with the guests in a friendly and convivial atmosphere.

Saint Joseph University of Beirut Shines at the 45th Istanbul Sports Festival, Claims Women’s Basketball Title

Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) once again demonstrated its excellence on the international scale by achieving outstanding results at the 45th Istanbul Sports Festival. The University’s performance highlighted the strength of Lebanese university sports and its ability to compete despite ongoing challenges.

The standout achievement came from the women’s basketball team, which earned the championship title after a flawless journey marked by victories in every match. Displaying exceptional teamwork and determination throughout the tournament, the USJ players were crowned champions following a thrilling final against the University of Milan. The match was decided by a single point and will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most exciting and closely contested games of the competition.

Success extended beyond basketball, as the swimming team continued its impressive run by winning 11 medals of various colors and securing second place in the overall standings, after the Russian team. This achievement reflects both the swimmers’ high level of technique and the continuous efforts of the technical and administrative staff supporting them.

USJ’s men’s basketball and futsal teams also delivered commendable performances, finishing fourth in the overall standings, further demonstrating the strength of the University’s delegation across both team and individual sports.

This remarkable success is the result of the dedication and hard work of the entire USJ Sport team, the unwavering support of the University’s administration, and the commitment of the athletes who represented both Lebanon and USJ with distinction, on and off the field of play.

On February 4, 2026, Fouad Maroun was appointed President of Loyola High School in Canada, a position he will hold until the end of the 2027–2028 academic year. He joined the institution in 2021 as Executive Director of Operations, where he oversaw finance, human resources, information technology, and infrastructure management. He also led major initiatives, including the renovation of the school gymnasium, all significantly enhancing daily life on campus.

An engineer by training, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from l’École polytechnique de Montréal in 1992, followed by a Master’s degree from McGill University in 1994. He later continued his studies at the School of Business (FGM) of Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), where he obtained an International MBA (MBAIP) in partnership with Paris-Dauphine University–PSL and the Sorbonne Business School (IAE Paris) in 2004. In 2020, he completed an Executive Doctorate in Business Administration (EDBA).

Alongside his career as a civil engineering consultant, Fouad Maroun developed a deep and lasting connection with USJ. From 2000 to 2009, he served as Administrator of the Humanities Campus (CSH), before becoming the University’s Secretary General from 2009 to 2021, guiding the institution with dedication and sound judgment. His attachment to USJ extends beyond his administrative roles. It also took a more personal and somehow symbolic form through his composition of the music for the USJ anthem, a work that reflects the spirit and history of the institution. In addition, he has been active on the music scene as guitarist and vocalist for his band, Champlain.

Between 2005 and 2021, he taught in the MBAIP program, contributing to the education and development of managers and executives. From 2009 to 2021, he was actively involved in the international academic community as a member of the International Grouping of Secretaries General of Francophone Universities (GISGUF). He also served as President of the Polytechnique Montréal Alumni Association – Lebanon, from 2011 to 2021.

At the intersection of engineering, management, and academic leadership, Fouad Maroun’s career reflects a longstanding commitment to education, institutional development, and the advancement of academic excellence.
