The Bachelor in Insurance Science provides students with an education focused on insurance and risk management. Given the everyday risks—such as illnesses, accidents, fires, and property loss—the insurance sector addresses a growing market demand. The program includes technical knowledge in insurance, along with a mandatory internship that facilitates a swift entry into the job market, while also covering theoretical aspects of risk management. Additional courses encompass legal, economic, and quantitative techniques. There is a strong emphasis on developing transversal, cross-cutting skills, including digital competencies, that are essential in today’s job market. This degree serves as a pathway to a Master’s program that further deepens the acquired knowledge.

This degree opens up various career opportunities in a highly competitive and dynamic job market, including insurance companies, insurance brokerage firms, banks, financial institutions, public works companies, engineering offices, consulting firms, portfolio management companies, hospitals, and more. The study schedule (starting 4 PM) makes it easier to access employment even during the Bachelor’s years.

The Master in Artificial Intelligence (AI), offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (FIA) at USJ, trains experts capable of developing intelligent systems applied in various sectors. This program offers a comprehensive and rigorous education, combining theoretical and practical learning in key fields such as machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and natural language processing.

The master courses cover advanced techniques in programming, optimization, and AI-based decision-making, enabling students to specialize in innovative fields such as software development, robotics, cybersecurity, fintech, and industrial automation. The curriculum includes the completion of a master's thesis, supervised by a company or research laboratory. Graduates are thus prepared to enter the job market or pursue doctoral studies.

Sectors seeking AI experts include technology companies, research institutions, and various industries.

The Inauguration of the Donors Hall and
the launch of the University’s 150th anniversary year.

The Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) reached an important turning point in its history, with the inauguration of the Donors Hall and the launch of its 150th anniversary year, on September 20, 2024, at the Medical Sciences Campus, Damascus Road. This Hall pays tribute to over 2900 benefactors who support USJ through their contributions. It is dedicated to those in the Platinum and Diamond donor circles, as well as the prestigious 1875 circle, with contributions ranging from 100,000 dollars to over 1 million dollars.

The evening concluded with a wine reception, celebrating the USJ community and its donors, united in a shared momentum of hope and commitment to the future of Lebanon.

Despite the severity of the situation, “USJ stands tall, taking pride in its 150 years, and aims to stay this way,” said Pr. Salim Daccache, S.J. Persuaded by the importance of information and orientation, and by the pursuit of its mission regardless of all difficulties, the USJ Student Information and Orientation Office presents various activities: online presentations every Tuesday at 4 PM, as well as in-person or virtual forums and presentations in different schools.

Moreover, the Student Information and Orientation Office is launching the 5th edition of the “Orientation 5 to 7” event in October 2024. This event aims to familiarize secondary cycle students from all Lebanese and foreign schools with the undergraduate programs offered at USJ and to guide them in choosing their majors by attending informative online sessions on Zoom. These sessions will take place from October 28th until November 18th, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM, guided by experts from various USJ institutions. Each session, lasting 30 minutes, will be dedicated to a specific program and will include a Q&A session and interactions between the students and the panelist.

Renowned Contributor to Macromarketing

In 2009, Pr Walid Abou Khalil earned his PhD Degree in Management Sciences from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. Today, Pr Walid is not only a professor at USJ Business School but also, the director of the MBAIP program and serves as the coordinator of the Executive Doctorate in Business Administration (EDBA) within the same faculty. His students benefit from his rich and diverse professional path. From 2008 until 2016, he was the Chief of the Department of Marketing at the USJ Business School. Before his arrival at USJ, Pr Walid Abou Khalil had gained 10 years of experience as a consultant, then a director at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon and, to his credit, has put out many publications as well.

Pr Abou Khalil received the prestigious 2024 Charles Slater Memorial Award for best article “Explaining Consumer Support for Sustainable Practices in the Frontier Market of Lebanon”, published in the Journal of Macromarketing.
