Sustainable Water Management: In the Metn Region

Lebanon Water Project (LWP) is a five-year project launched in 2015, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), with a budget of US$65 million and implemented throughout Lebanon. It aims to increase the access of Lebanese citizens to clean, reliable and sustainable sources of drinking water. The project seeks to achieve this by intervening in pilot areas of the country, while improving Lebanon’s capacity in water resources management and the efficiency and sustainability of public water services. That said, the project provides technical and financial support to relevant stakeholders to improve the performance of the water sector in Lebanon. The added value of this project lies in its multi-faceted approach, where not only interventions at the infrastructural level are foreseen (installation of water meters, construction or rehabilitation of water reservoirs, installation or maintenance of underground infrastructures, etc.), but also work on capacity building of the sector’s stakeholders (water institutions, public authorities, private sector, etc.) and on citizens’ engagement in water conservation.

Within the framework of this project, the CEEDD Chair responded to LWP’s call for proposals through a project that aims to share knowledge and raise awareness among citizens in the Metn region and the Jezzine region on water conservation.

La Gestion Durable de L’Eau: Dans la région du Metn

Lebanon Water Project (LWP) est un projet quinquennal, entamé en 2015, financé par l'Agence des États-Unis pour le Développement International (USAID) et implémenté sur tout le territoire libanais, à un budget de 65 millions de dollars américains. Il vise à accroître l'accès des citoyens libanais à des sources d'eau potable propres, fiables et durables. Pour ce faire, ce projet intervient dans des zones pilotes du pays, tout en améliorant la capacité du Liban en matière de gestion des ressources en eau et l’efficacité et la durabilité des services publics de distribution d’eau. Ceci dit, le projet fourni une assistance technique et financière aux parties prenantes concernées, afin d'améliorer la performance du secteur de l'eau au Liban.

La valeur ajoutée de ce projet réside dans son approche plurivalente, où non seulement des interventions au niveau infrastructurel sont envisagées (installation de compteurs d’eau, construction ou réhabilitation de réservoirs d’eau, mise en place ou maintenance des infrastructures sous-terraines, etc.), mais également, un travail sur le renforcement des capacités des acteurs du secteur (établissements de l’eau, autorités publiques, secteur privé, etc.) et sur l’engagement des citoyens dans la préservation de l’eau.
