Citizenship and Leadership: Training of Amicales de l’USJ

Aiming to strengthen the civic engagement of young students in favor of sustainable peace and to encourage them to become agents of change for an effective citizenship, the CEEDD Chair organized in collaboration with the Bureau of Regional Development and External Programs (DRPE), the USJ and the Believe Association, training with the presidents and members of the USJ’s friends (about 30 students) around the theme: “Citizenship and Leadership for Peacebuilding”. With the aim of developing the skills and knowledge of these young people around the themes of leadership and citizenship, this training took place in two stages: first, the students were invited to spend a weekend (28-29 April 2018) at the Hotel Le Crillon in Broumana, where they were trained in the concepts of mediation, effective leadership, project management, and the promotion of justice through the USJ Charter and the Ignatian pedagogy. 

The training began with an intervention by the Rector of the LSU, R.P. Salim Daccache s.j., on the LSU charter and its relationship to eco-citizenship and leadership. Subsequent student workshops allowed students to think about relevant, targeted and well-structured citizen community projects to be implemented within the LSU. This weekend of work was followed by a second day of training at the USJ, on May 12, 2018, where students were introduced to the importance of respect and promotion of the Common Good, to the management of the dilemma “religious affiliation versus citizenship”, and the role of each person as an agent of change for effective citizenship.

This training has thus fostered the emergence of young leaders with, on the one hand, appropriate knowledge in terms of leadership, citizenship and culture of peace, and on the other hand, transversal skills in terms of communication, conflict resolution, mediation, responsibility and initiative; young, self-aware, and capable of developing strategic and analytical thinking with a broader understanding of government institutions and regional geopolitics.

Citoyenneté et Leadership: Formation des amicales de l’USJ

Visant à renforcer l’engagement civique des jeunes étudiants en faveur de la paix durable et à les inciter à devenir des agents de changement pour une citoyenneté efficace, la Chaire CEEDD a organisé, en collaboration avec le Bureau de Développement Régional et des Programmes Externes (DRPE), à l’USJ et à l’Association Believe, une formation auprès des présidents et des membres des amicales de L’USJ (environ 30 étudiants) autour du thème : « Citizenship and Leadership for Peacebuilding ». Ayant pour objectif de développer les compétences et les connaissances de ces jeunes autour des thématiques du leadership et de la citoyenneté, cette formation s’est déroulée en deux temps : dans un premier temps, les étudiants ont été invités à passer un weekend (28-29 avril 2018) à l’hôtel Le Crillon à Broumana, où ils ont été formés aux concepts de médiation, de leadership efficace, de gestion de projets, et de promotion de la justice à travers la charte de l’USJ et la pédagogie Ignacienne.

La formation a commencé par une intervention du recteur de l’USJ, R.P. Salim Daccache s.j., sur la charte de l’USJ et son lien avec l’écocitoyenneté et le leadership. Les ateliers de travail menés par la suite auprès des étudiants ont permis à ces derniers de penser à des projets communautaires citoyens pertinents, ciblés et bien structurés, à implémenter au sein de l’USJ. Ce weekend de travail a été suivi par une deuxième journée de formation à l’USJ, en date du 12 mai 2018, où les étudiants ont été initiés à l’importance du respect et de la promotion du Bien Commun, à la gestion du dilemme « appartenance religieuse versus appartenance citoyenne », et au rôle de chacune et de chacun comme agent de changement pour une citoyenneté efficace.

Cette formation a ainsi favorisé l’émergence de jeunes leaders dotés, d’une part, de connaissances appropriées en matière de leadership, de citoyenneté et de culture de paix, et d’autre part, de compétences transversales en termes de communication, de résolution de conflits, de médiation, de responsabilité et d’esprit d’initiative ; de jeunes, conscients en soi, et aptes à développer une réflexion stratégique et analytique avec une compréhension plus large des institutions gouvernementales et de la géopolitique régionale.
