USJ Law Students at the 15th Annual MENA Vis Pre-Moot

February 9 to 11, 2025

Our law students took part in the 15th annual MENA Vis Pre-Moot. But this year, their participation stood out for one key reason: resilience.

Unlike previous years, only two students were able to represent the six-member team in person, while the remaining four contributed remotely due to unforeseen logistical challenges. Despite this, their dedication and teamwork never wavered. In fact, the USJ team ranked 4th in the general rounds—a remarkable achievement among all participating teams.

Representing USJ in person were Rita Mounzer and Lea El Assaad, while Charbel Aouad, Hassan Abdallah, Lynn Zahr, and Vanessa Abou Mansour played a crucial role remotely. Together, they left a lasting impression on fellow participants, coaches, and arbitrators, inspiring admiration for their determination to excel despite the odds. Their efforts carried them all the way to the Quarterfinals.

The two pleaders proudly represented their team:

  • Rita Mounzer earned an honorable mention for the Best Oralist Award, showcasing eloquence and a deep understanding of the case.
  • Lea El Assaad displayed outstanding adaptability and perseverance, mastering a new part in just a few days and delivering a high-scoring performance.

Behind the scenes, Charbel Aouad, Hassan Abdallah, Lynn Zahr, and Vanessa Abou Mansour were the backbone of the team. Though they couldn’t plead in person, their countless hours of research and preparation ensured every detail was covered. Their unwavering support and commitment played a key role in the team's success, proving that in the Vis Moot, teamwork always triumphs.

To us, this embodies the true Spirit of the Vis Moot—a team that stands together, no matter the challenge. While many define a team's strength by its victories, we believe it’s also measured by how it overcomes adversity. This year, we didn’t just compete; we proved that perseverance and determination are what make a real team.

This first step in the Moot journey would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsor Nassif Arbitration (Karim Nassif, Esq.). We also extend our thanks to the coaches assisting this year’s team: Sasha Abou Rjeily, Maria Chahine, Nathalie Daccache, Michele Ghawi, Julien Maalouf, Jihad Mouawad, Aya Sabra and Salim Sleiman. Their commitment in assisting the students is key to the success we hope to achieve.
