In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, Prof. Salim Daccache, SJ, Rector of the Saint Joseph University of Beirut, met with students of the USJ South Lebanon Campus on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
In her opening remarks, the Campus Director, Prof. Dina Sidani, commended the resilience of the students, who overcame significant challenges during the first semester, as the war devastated the country and severely impacted the southern region.
Joining the event to greet the students were Prof. Wassim Raphael, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (FIA); Prof. Fouad Zmokhol, Dean of the USJ Business School (FGM); Prof. Maher Abboud, Dean of the Faculty of Science (FS); and Mr. Rock Achy, Director of the Lebanese Institute of Educators (ILE). Each of them praised the students for their dedication and determination.
Prof. Salim Daccache, SJ, commended the students’ perseverance in completing their semester despite the immense logistical and emotional hurdles caused by the war. He also emphasized the strong sense of solidarity and citizenship they exhibited during these dire times.
Concluding his speech, the Rector reminded the audience that 2025 marks USJ’s 150th anniversary – a milestone that holds even greater significance in light of these challenges.
The event concluded with a convivial cocktail reception, providing an opportunity for the Rector, Deans, Directors, instructors, and students to exchange in a relaxed and friendly setting.
