The Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, warmly welcomed a delegation from Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) on Thursday, March 14, 2024. Led by Prof. Salim Daccache SJ, the Rector of USJ, the delegation included: Prof. Carla Edde, the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Prof. Roula Talhouk, Director of the Institute of Muslim-Christian Studies, Fr. Guy Sarkis, and Dr. Ahmad al-Zoubi. The Grand Mufti’s advisor, Dr. Mohammed Sammak, was also in attendance.

The delegation extended their congratulations to Grand Mufti Derian for the holy month of Ramadan, and also presented him with the University’s commemorative book. Additionally, they extended an invitation for him to sponsor an event organized by the Institute of Muslim-Christian Studies at the University. This event, titled “Sheikh Hassan Khaled: Mufti of National Balances and Coexistence,” is part of the “Faces of Dialogue” series. This series celebrates the late Grand Mufti’s significant contributions to Muslim-Christian dialogue, coexistence, and Lebanese national unity.
