L'ergothérapie était à l'honneur aux États-Unis au cours du mois d’avril, offrant l'occasion de célébrer l'importance de cette profession. L’équipe de l’ErgoBulletin 22/23 a organisé une rencontre virtuelle pour marquer cette occasion, avec la participation de l’ergothérapeute et chercheuse de renommée internationale, co-auteure du MCRO et développeuse du CO-OP, la Pre Helene Polatajko.

Le 20 avril 2023, une rencontre très spéciale a eu lieu en ligne sur Zoom, les participants étaient des étudiants, des enseignants et des ergothérapeutes du Liban. La directrice de l'IET, la Pre Carla Matta Abizeid, a commencé la rencontre en prononçant un discours, suivi par l’équipe de l’ErgoBulletin qui a recueilli les questions des participants et a animé la discussion.

Plusieurs sujets ont été abordés avec la Pre Polatajko tels que son parcours en tant qu’ergothérapeute, ses recherches du moment, sa façon de trouver et d’analyser les sujets de recherche et le développement du CO-OP ainsi que l’ergothérapie au Canada. Elle a également partagé avec les étudiants des conseils pour les aider dans leurs futures aventures en tant que chercheurs et ergothérapeutes. 

“In Canada, we are exploring the application of occupational therapy for groups who do not have medical-related occupational problems. Typically, occupational therapy requires a medical referral in many countries, but our focus on meaningful occupations reveals the importance of economic, natural, legal, policy, and governmental factors that can impact someone's ability to engage in their preferred activities. As occupational therapists, it is important to ensure people have the opportunity to participate in activities that are meaningful to them beyond just medical conditions.”

« As an editor, it is imperative to conduct a thorough review of a submitted article to ensure its quality and suitability for publication. Since it may not be feasible for the editor to possess expertise in all areas, it is often necessary to enlist the help of two or three subject matter experts to evaluate the manuscript. This review process allows for diverse perspectives, which is critical for scientific advancement. After receiving the feedback, the editor evaluates it to make a final decision on whether to accept or reject the paper. Ultimately, having multiple opinions strengthens the validity and credibility of the scientific community. »

Avant de conclure la rencontre, la Pre Helene Polatajko a encouragé les ergothérapeutes à continuer à promouvoir la profession et à intégrer notre pratique dans la recherche et en ergothérapie.
