The Institute of Business Administration (IGE) of Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) is proud to celebrate the outstanding performance of its Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts Department at Horeca 2023, one of the largest and most prestigious platforms for hospitality professionals.
IGE’s Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts Department has been a regular participant in Horeca for several years, and this year was no exception. The event allows the Department to connect with other professionals in the industry, establish new relationships, discover cutting-edge innovations, and compete alongside their peers.
This year, three students from IGE competed against their future colleagues in three main competitions. Their outstanding performances resulted in three prestigious medals: a silver medal for Best Burger, and two first gold medals for Best Open Cold Sandwich and Best Eclair, earning the highest score in both competitions. Moreover, one of IGE’s students won an award from Boecker for food safety and hygiene.
Horeca is a significant platform for IGE’s faculty, students, and staff, offering valuable opportunities to network, meet professionals, and secure future collaborations in their fields and with other companies. These opportunities include collaborating with new tutors and lecturers, internships for students, job opportunities for graduates, and more.
In addition to their outstanding performance and networking achievements, IGE’s Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts Department had the privilege of meeting with prominent Michelin-starred Lebanese chefs who are representing Lebanese cuisine worldwide. Two of the most distinguished chefs, Chef Antonio Bachour and Chef Philip Khoury, visited our Institute and engaged in a discussion with our students. They shared their experiences, expertise, insights on the industry, and future outlook, providing valuable knowledge and inspiration to the aspiring culinary professionals at IGE.
“We are extremely proud of our students’ achievements at Horeca, and delighted to see the hard work and dedication of our Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts Department pay off,” said Dr. Celine Saab, Director of IGE. “At IGE, we are fully committed to providing our students with the best education and opportunities, and our dedication and our continuous support and presence stand as a testament to that commitment.”
IGE is the first and only institute in Lebanon to offer a diploma in Culinary Arts, as opposed to just a certificate. It is worth noting that IGE’s Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts Department is part of The Alliance Network of Paul Bocuse, a prestigious and independent global network that brings together the best higher education institutions and universities in the world.
In addition to the specialization in Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts, the Institute of Business Administration (IGE) at USJ also offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Computer Science for Business and Marketing and Advertising.
