On November 21, 2021, the new President of the Beirut Bar Association (BBA), Nader Gaspard (FDSP ‘83) was elected. A member of the BBA for over three terms, Gaspard was considered the most favored candidate. He won the race with 300 votes ahead of his closest competitor. Nader Gaspard will become the successor of Melhem Khalaf (FDSP ‘85).
After his victory, President Gaspard said: “It is time to work and I count on all of you, members and lawyers, to ensure that no one is overlooked and discriminated against. The right to a defense will remain sacred. We will work with love and unity and we will not interfere in politics.” He said that he wants to act with bravery, wisdom and transparency on a national scale.
Nader Gaspard graduated from the Faculty of Law and Political Science at USJ in 1983 with a Bachelor of Law. He has authored several books that have enriched the Arab legal library and that have become references for law students. He has published articles in different newspapers, magazines and media. His lifelong devotion to human rights has undoubtedly made him a prominent member of the BBA. Nader Gaspard was also a Commissioner of the Palace of Justice.
