Planning for the new academic year 2021-2022 in a country ravaged by an economic crisis and the deterioration of living conditions experienced by more than 74% of Lebanese is difficult for many families. To this end, in September 2021, the Operation Day 7 (O7) Steering Committee of Saint-Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) launched a school supplies drive to support families in need.
New and second-hand school supplies that were collected included backpacks, dictionaries, scientific calculators, geometry boxes, notebooks, binders, pens, pencils, sharpeners, rulers, erasers, pencil cases, water bottles and lunch boxes. Volunteers and friends of O7 distributed the donations to 300 school children from needy families in several Lebanese regions such as Achrafieh, Sodeco, Bourj Hammoud, Sin el-Fil, Kesrouane, Mrouj, Jbeil and Okaibe.
This initiative gathered, along with the O7 Steering Committee, the NGO Bassma, AFEL, the Dispensary Al Daccache, the Foyer des Antonins and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC).
