Individuals with complex communication needs: Case studies

This teaching unit is part of the bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy. It is designed to develop students’ skills in evaluating and classifying language and communication profiles in children with complex communication needs such as cerebral palsy (CP) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and to help them learn how to develop an effective therapeutic plan for these children. As they review case studies, students will evaluate and classify the children’s language and communication profile, taking into consideration their strengths, weaknesses, and overall needs. They will learn how to use standardized assessments and observations to gather information about the children’s communication abilities and how to analyze the data to make informed decisions about treatment planning.
