Foundations of Risk Management

This course introduces foundational risk management concepts that are applicable across a variety of sectors. Students will learn to identify, measure, and manage risks using quantitative and qualitative techniques. The course is designed for general-purpose application, with insights from various industries and economic sectors. To ensure students not only grasp theoretical concepts but also apply their knowledge in practical, real-world scenarios. The course is designed to develop both the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for successful risk management across multiple sectors. • Equip students with a comprehensive understanding of risk management fundamentals, focusing on identification, measurement, and mitigation strategies applicable across various industries. • Teach students to recognize and assess different types of risks (credit, market, operational, liquidity, etc.) in diverse business environments, emphasizing both qualitative and quantitative approaches. • Enable students to use basic risk measurement tools, such as Value at Risk (VaR), sensitivity analysis, and stress testing, in evaluating financial and operational risks. • Familiarize students with risk management frameworks and tools, emphasizing mitigation, risk transfer, and avoidance techniques suitable for general corporate environments. • Provide opportunities for students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world examples from various industries, fostering a holistic understanding of risk management practices. • Encourage students to explore the role of governance, compliance, and regulatory requirements in shaping risk management strategies within organizations.
