Marie Abboud is Professor of Physics Head of the Physics Department at the Faculty of Science, Université Saint-Joseph, Lebanon. She holds a PhD in atomic and quantum physics from the École Normale Supérieure and the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, as well as an Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, France. Since 2020, she has been a visiting professor at the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel, École Normale Supérieure, Paris, France. Marie Abboud is a member of several learned societies author of over fifty articles published in leading journals and scientific books. She has also taken part in various national and international conferences, sharing the results of her work and collaborating with scientists from all over the world. Passionate about multidisciplinarity, her areas of research include lasers, biophotonics, laser-matter interaction, optical metrology and gender studies in science. She is currently involved in various academic and scientific projects, both national and international, in collaboration with the public and private sectors. In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded the international LOréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” prize in 2009. In 2014, she participated in the U.S. International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), and in 2024, she was honored as one of the “Women in Optics” by the SPIE - International Society for Optics and Photonics. She sits on various scientific juries and committees, such as the LOréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” jury for the Levant and Middle East regional programs since 2011, and for the international program since 2014.
